Individual Counseling
What is Individual Counselling?
Our counselling sessions consist of one to one engagement with a professional Child Counsellor. Our children range from 4- 18 years of age. These are 1 hour(s) hands- on practical psycho-educational counselling sessions on Social and emotional skills. A new topic is addressed in every session with accompanying exercises and techniques and well as homework assignments.
Effectiveness of Counseling
Counseling can help children learn how to build secure and healthy relationships with themselves and others. In many circumstances, the counseling relationship can function as a tool to hep child correct erroneous thoughts and beliefs that affect problematic emotions and behaviors.
Negative or irrational messages (such as “you’re worthless” or “you’re a failure”) picked up directly or indirectly from exposure or personal experience can impact a child’s self-worth. Working with a counselor to correct and substitute dysfunctional messages can enhance self-esteem and promote resilience. Irrespective of what a child is going through, counseling can equip them with a set of emotional and cognitive coping skills that will allow them to overcome adversity in the present and the future.
Children gain tools to deal with challenging behaviours from others, manage their own emotions and behaviors and do so without the judgement. Research shows that children who undergo the process of counseling grow and gain confidence as the spiral of positive changes begin.
